Biography

Gleider Hernández is a professor of public international law at KU Leuven. From 2018 to 2022, he was also a professor of public international law at Open University Netherlands. He previously held a position at Durham University, where he was an Associate Professor (Reader) and Senior Lecturer at Durham Law School, and served as Vice-Director of the Durham Global Policy Institute. Hernández obtained a D.Phil from Wadham College, Oxford University, an LL.M in Public International Law from Leiden University, and a BCL and LL.B from McGill University. His recent appointments include the Special Course Director Studies at The Hague Academy of International Law, Visiting Professor at Torcuato di Tella University, and guest professorships at the University of Padua, Université de Paris Nanterre, and Harvard Law School. He has received fellowships such as the Research Leadership Fellowship from the British Arts & Humanities Research Council and has contributed significantly to international law as a legal advisor and during his tenure at the International Court of Justice. Additionally, he is involved with various international law journals and NGOs focused on social justice.
