Dr. Glenda Carpio

Biography

Glenda Carpio is the Chair of the Department of English at Harvard College, with a focus on American Literature and cultural studies. She is currently accepting graduate student advisees. Carpio's scholarship explores intersections of literature, history, and culture, with a particular emphasis on New World slavery and its representations. She has published notable works including 'Laughing Fit to Kill: Black Humor Fictions of Slavery' and has contributed to discussions about African-American visual art and Anglophone Caribbean literature. Carpio's research interests also encompass theories of memory, textuality, and various cultural contexts such as gender studies and Latino/a literature.
