Dr. Glenn Sandström

Biography

Glenn Sandström is an Associate Professor at Umeå University specializing in family dynamics from both historical and contemporary perspectives. He extensively researches changes in family structures, gender relations, and long-term developments in family stability and fertility, particularly in Sweden and other European countries since the late nineteenth century. Currently, Sandström is involved in projects that examine the social changes leading to an increase in divorce rates in Sweden during the early twentieth century and the long-term trend of rising one-person households. His research includes a historical demographic analysis that covers topics such as marriage, divorce, household structures, and single living. Sandström's work emphasizes the transition of family dynamics over time and the sociocultural factors influencing these changes. He has a published open-access software available on GitHub, which contributes to the broader understanding of demographic shifts and family stability in Sweden.
