Biography

Glenn M. Toney is a Professor and Department Head at Texas A&M University's College of Medicine in the Department of Medical Physiology. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Zoology at Weber State University in 1988 and earned his Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Louisville in 1992. He also completed postdoctoral training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1996. His research interests focus on the neural mechanisms of cardiovascular regulation and the treatment of mood disorders related to serotonergic dysfunction. He has received funding from major institutes, including the National Heart, Lung, Blood Institute and the National Institute of Mental Health, to investigate various aspects of hypertension and neuropsychiatric conditions. One area of his work explores the role of serotonin transporters and their impact on memory processing related to anxiety disorders. Dr. Toney is also engaged in research addressing the opioid epidemic, specifically the mechanisms of respiratory depression linked to opioid use in patients with sleep apnea.
