Biography

Glenn Wilcox is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, where he has taught courses in architectural design, generative design computing, and digital fabrication. His research focuses on production architecture as a technological and cultural artifact, particularly interested in leveraging computationally based design methods, including numerically controlled machines, to innovate production systems and materials. Established in 2003, his architectural practice, area.architecture, co-founded with Anca Trandafirescu, explores various design issues through competitions, commissioned projects, furniture fabrication, and design/build work. His firm has been recognized with numerous awards, including a citation at Architect Magazine’s R+D Awards for the innovative carbon fiber project “c-Lith” in 2014. Additionally, he received special mention at the Architizers A+ Awards for the “Flying Carpet” project and was honored in various architectural competitions, demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Temple University and a Master of Architecture from Cornell University.
