Golnaz Alipour Esgandani joined Macquarie University as a Senior Lecturer in Teaching and Leadership in January 2021. Prior to this, she was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Sydney, where she worked as part of a multidisciplinary team on a project that focused on the mechanics of self-healing clay soils, funded by an ARC Discovery grant. Her research is centered on the mechanical and hydrological factors that trigger damage in self-healing geomaterials. She earned her PhD in Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2019. This PhD was supported by the prestigious Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) as well as an Engineering Research Award (ERA) top-up scholarship. Golnaz is passionate about teaching and has years of experience in developing and coordinating various civil engineering units. Currently, she is teaching the Soil Mechanics unit at Macquarie University, aiming to provide students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of Geotechnical Engineering design. Her teaching philosophy is based on a constructivist approach that emphasizes motivation, meta-learning, self-regulation/self-efficacy, and critical thinking.
