Dr. Gonzalo Zambrano Narvaez

Biography

Gonzalo Zambrano Narvaez is an Assistant Professor with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering and Subsurface Energy at the University of Alberta, part of the Faculty of Engineering. With extensive experience over the past ten years, he has been involved with innovative applications of rock and soil mechanics principles in energy-related studies. His research interests include leading advancements in laboratory facilities and developing geomechanical modeling platforms. Zambrano has collaborated with public and private sector organizations to push the boundaries of physical modeling research. He actively mentors undergraduate and graduate students, welcoming those eager to gain research experience in fields such as subsurface energy and civil engineering. Key areas of his research include subsurface energy utilization, fluid monitoring for carbon storage projects, and implementing AI and machine learning in risk management. Zambrano has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and is engaged in various conference presentations, sharing his findings on subjects ranging from geotechnical modeling to the mechanical behavior of 3D-printed rock analogs.
