Professor Gopal Madabhushi leads the Geotechnical Environmental Research Group at the University of Cambridge, specializing in geotechnical earthquake engineering. His diverse research interests encompass post-earthquake investigations and experimental as well as numerical analyses of liquefaction-induced failure mechanisms in civil engineering structures. He has served as chairman of the Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT) and has been involved in key committees, including the Research Education sub-committee of SECED and the Technical Committee TC2 of ISSMGE. His research is funded by various organizations including EPSRC, EU, NSF USA, and private corporations. Currently, he is developing a European network project titled 'Seismic Engineering Research Infrastructure European Synergies – SERIES' with 24 partners across Europe and Turkey. A significant part of his work includes the development of advanced 2-D servo-hydraulic earthquake actuators and studying dynamic soil-structure interactions, especially in heavy structures like nuclear reactor buildings. In addition to his geotechnical work, he has made contributions to biomechanics, particularly in Total Hip Arthroplasty procedures, and is actively involved in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of engineering and life sciences.
