Gopalan Nair completed his undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Calicut University, India, with minors in Statistics and Physics. He subsequently spent several years at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Bangalore, India, as a research scholar. In 1989, he completed his PhD in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Throughout his career, he has held academic positions at institutions such as Auburn University, the University of Queensland, Curtin University of Technology, the University of California (Santa Barbara), and the National University of Singapore before joining the University of Western Australia in 2008. Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer and is the Honours Coordinator for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He is actively involved in teaching courses related to Risk, Reliability, and Safety, as well as Spatial Statistical Modeling.
