Dr. Göran Larsson

Biography

Göran Larsson is a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Gothenburg. His research primarily focuses on Islam, the Muslim experience in Europe, Islamic theology, and Quranic studies, alongside the interaction of religion and media. He has delved into global conflicts, particularly the Syrian and Iraqi wars, and their implications in Sweden through theories and methods of religious studies. Göran completed his PhD in Religious Studies at the University of Gothenburg and has held positions at Uppsala University and Södertörn University. As a guest researcher, he collaborated with the University of Leiden in the Netherlands in 2004 and was affiliated with the University of Oslo from 2011 to 2014. Since January 2023, he has been appointed as a full-time professor while also serving as a Guest Professor at Borås University. His work has contributed to understanding violent extremism and the complexities of Muslim identity and media consumption in contemporary society.
