Dr. Gordon Matheson

Biography

Gordon O. Matheson is a Professor Emeritus in Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University, specializing in Sports Medicine. With advanced degrees in Medicine (MD) and a PhD in Exercise Biochemistry, he has made significant contributions to the field through over 200 publications and more than 250 lectures across 16 countries. From 1994 to 2016, Dr. Matheson established and directed the Sports Medicine Division at Stanford University, also serving as Chief and team physician for various professional teams including the Golden State Warriors and the Vancouver Canucks. His academic focus includes the use of human-centered design in developing effective chronic disease prevention programs. Dr. Matheson is a former president of the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine and has been involved with the International Olympic Committee and World Anti-Doping Agency. He actively engaged in teaching undergraduate courses and establishing fellowship programs in primary care sports medicine. He has received various accolades for his contributions to sports medicine and is recognized as a thought leader in the challenges faced by athletes in healthcare environments. Now residing in Vancouver, he continues to pursue improvements in healthcare delivery.
