Dr. Gordon Mcfiggans

Biography

Gordon Mcfiggans is a Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Manchester. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, followed by a Master’s degree in Environmental Pollution Control from the University of Leeds and a PhD in Marine Boundary Layer Chemistry from the University of East Anglia. With over 20 years of experience in Atmospheric Science, he leads a research group that focuses on the impacts of atmospheric composition and aerosol properties on health and climate. Mcfiggans has coordinated numerous NERC consortia and participates in various EU research projects aimed at improving understanding of aerosol-cloud interactions and their effects on air quality. His current research emphasizes developing modeling capabilities and conducting interdisciplinary studies that integrate chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering. Mcfiggans remains actively involved in various committees and has served as an associate editor for the journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics. His work also relates to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to global efforts to mitigate environmental issues.
