Biography

Gordon Pon is an Associate Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University in the School of Social Work. He holds a Master of Social Work degree from Carleton University and a PhD in Language and Culture Teaching from York University. Prior to his position at TMU, he worked in frontline child welfare roles, gaining practical insights that inform his academic work. His research interests focus on anti-racism and anti-colonialism, particularly in relation to child welfare and Asian Canadian Studies. His notable projects include co-investigating a study on anti-Black racism in 2015 and collaborating on mobilizing knowledge concerning race and colonialism in Canada. In recognition of his dedication to teaching, he received the Sue Williams Excellence in Teaching Award in 2023.
