Professor Dr. Görel Granström

Biography

Görel Granström's research primarily focuses on the rights of crime victims, particularly those affected by hate crimes, and the roles of legal actors in addressing these issues. She has been associated with the Department of Law at Umeå University since 2000, becoming an Associate Professor in 2009. Granström's teaching includes directing courses such as Legal History, Criminology, Victimology, and Gender Law within the Law Programme. Her dissertation explored legal history, specifically on conscientious objections in Sweden from 1898 to 1925. Currently, she is involved in a research project concerning police investigations of hate crimes, funded by the Swedish Research Council. Granström has also participated in an EU-financed project analyzing hate crime legislation across five member states and is a member of the International Network of Hate Studies, where she contributes to understanding victims of crime and their interaction with the judicial system.
