Biography

Gottardi Bioengineering Biomaterials Laboratory is dedicated to pediatric airways research and strives to lead the field in treatment and restoration function for children with otolaryngologic disorders. The lab leverages over 10 years of experience in tissue engineering, orthopaedics, controlled drug delivery, and regenerative rehabilitation to build a program focused on engineering solutions for airway disorders. This includes translational tissue engineering and novel preventative drug delivery approaches that accelerate the pathway to clinical application. The lab investigates the basic cellular, molecular, and microbiological mechanisms, as well as the genetic aspects of ear, nose, and throat damage and healing. They are also developing organ-on-chip animal models for cartilage, vocal folds, craniofacial tissues growth, disease, and repair. The lab empowers future scientists through outreach efforts at Children’s Hospital Philadelphia, welcoming students interested in exploring careers in science and engineering.
