Gotthard Strohmaier has been a honorary professor since 1995, focusing on themes such as the Greek heritage in Islam, the reception of Arabic science in the West, and the issues surrounding images and image prohibition in Islam. He studied Protestant theology and Arabic studies from 1953 to 1956 at Leipzig, continuing his studies at the Humboldt University of East Berlin until 1958. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he became a senior researcher at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences in June 2014. His research includes various areas related to the personalities of translators in ninth-century Baghdad and the societal conditions that facilitated the integration of Greek heritage into the Islamic scholarly tradition. Currently, he is finalizing an edition of a commentary by Galen, significantly contributing to the field of philology.
