Biography

Gourisankar Ghosh is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on the detailed mechanisms of signaling pathways that lead to the regulation of gene expression, particularly the role of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) in these processes. Ghosh has conducted extensive studies on mRNA processing and transport, as well as protein-protein, protein-DNA, and protein-RNA interactions. His lab employs high-resolution X-ray crystallography to elucidate the structures of proteins and protein complexes, testing hypotheses derived from these three-dimensional structures through biochemical and biological experiments. Ghosh has also been deeply involved in outreach activities, mentoring minority students and recruiting them into graduate programs. His work has not only emphasized academic excellence but also the importance of expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged communities, particularly in West Bengal, India.
