Biography

Govind Kaigala's research interests lie in microscale fluid control and molecular assay technologies for personalized medicine. He is passionate about translational clinical and medical research and aims to bring quantification to biology and medicine by leveraging bioinstrumentation, micro, and nanosystems. He joined the University of British Columbia in Summer 2022 after spending 11 years at IBM Zurich as a Principal Investigator, where he led a research team in the area of Precision Diagnostics. Dr. Kaigala earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Oncology from the University of Alberta in 2009, where he developed microfluidic systems for genetic analysis. He also completed an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University's Microfluidics Laboratory, engaging in research at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Urology at Stanford Medical School. He is dedicated to advancing the fields of lab-on-a-chip and molecular diagnostics.
