Dr. Gowri Anandarajah

Biography

Gowri Anandarajah, MD, FAAFP, is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where she has served since 1992. An educator and clinician, Dr. Anandarajah graduated from Dartmouth College and obtained her medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She completed her residency in family medicine at Duke University Medical Center, where she also served as chief resident. Dr. Anandarajah has held numerous leadership positions within the Brown Family Medicine Department, including Residency Director and Director of Faculty Development. As the Associate Dean of Medicine and Inaugural Program Director for the Brown Gateways to Medicine, Healthcare & Research program, she focuses on enhancing the diversity of the physician workforce. Her research interests encompass medical education, health disparities, professional identity formation, and advanced communication skills, particularly in palliative care and interprofessional training. She is recognized nationally and internationally for her work on the spirituality and health intersection, with her concepts widely disseminated in various languages. Dr. Anandarajah has worked extensively in multiple healthcare settings, providing care to diverse populations.
