Biography

Grace Livingstone is an Affiliated Lecturer at the Centre of Latin American Studies at the University of Cambridge. Her research interests encompass British foreign policy towards Latin America, particularly the influence of private corporations and social movements in policy-making. She has a specific focus on drugs policy in Colombia and is currently studying British and European investment in green fuels in South America. Livingstone is the author of significant works such as 'Britain and the Dictatorships in Argentina and Chile, 1973-82: Foreign Policy, Corporations, and Social Movements' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018) and 'America’s Backyard: The United States in Latin America from the Monroe Doctrine to the War on Terror' (Zed Books, 2009). Her other notable publications include 'Colombia: Drugs, Democracy and War' (Latin America Bureau/Rutgers University Press, 2003) and various chapters in edited volumes addressing the political climate in Latin America. With a PhD from the University of Cambridge, a Master's in Latin American Studies from the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of London, and a Bachelor's degree in History from Queen Mary, University of London, she has extensive expertise in Latin American affairs as a journalist, having contributed to outlets such as the BBC World Service, The Guardian, and the Independent.
