Dr. Grace Monis

Biography

Grace Fortes Monis is an Associate Professor and Apheresis Medical Director at UC Davis Health. Her clinical interests include transfusion medicine, apheresis, blood banking, and special coagulation services. Dr. Monis provides care for patients requiring hematopoietic stem cell collection, automated red cell exchange, plasma exchange, and extracorporeal photopheresis. She emphasizes patient engagement as a crucial component of health care, cherishing the input and choices of her patients in achieving their health goals. Dr. Monis advocates for patient education, waste reduction, and the use of databases and informatics for efficient process management in transfusion practices. Academically, her research focuses on improving blood product quality and explores hematologic pathology issues such as disseminated intravascular coagulopathy, microparticle formation, and lupus inhibitors.
