Dr. Grace O Connell

Biography

Grace O’Connell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research primarily focuses on biomechanics, particularly related to cartilage and intervertebral discs. She investigates tissue engineering and continuum modeling of soft tissues, aiming to understand and improve intervertebral disc function and address issues related to degeneration and regeneration. O’Connell’s work contributes to advancing knowledge in the field, particularly concerning the mechanical properties of biological tissues and their implications for health and disease. In addition to her role as an educator, she serves as the Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence in the College of Engineering, fostering an inclusive academic environment.
