Dr. Graeme Morland

Biography

Graeme Maxwell Morland, AIA, RIBA, is an Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of Southern California's School of Architecture. He has a distinguished educational background, including a Diploma in Architecture from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, University of Glasgow. Over the years, Professor Morland has held various prestigious positions, including teaching roles at the University of Glasgow and the University of Illinois (Chicago Circle Campus). He has served as the Chairman of the School of Architecture at USC and has directed multiple programs emphasizing architectural design and urban theory. His consultancy experience spans major Los Angeles offices, prominently with Ellerbe Becket, Inc., where he was responsible for significant projects such as the design of the new Helen Topping Library for the Schools of Architecture and Fine Arts at USC and the Naval Regional Medical Centre in San Diego. Morland's research interests lie in visual theory, graphic communication, and urban light rail transportation, contributing to various design projects for the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Additionally, he has maintained a private professional practice focusing on residential and community projects in California's South Bay region, totaling approximately 45 completed projects. His work and insights into contemporary architectural urban ideas have been published and recognized widely within the academic and professional realms.
