Biography

Graham Pavitt is a Professor in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at the University of Manchester. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Virology from the University of Warwick in 1988 and subsequently earned his D.Phil in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford in 1992, focusing on gene expression mechanisms. Following his studies, Graham undertook postdoctoral research at the National Institutes of Health in the USA before returning to the UK, where he received a Career Development Award from the Medical Research Council. He established his laboratory at the University of Dundee in 1998 before moving to the University of Manchester in 2000, where he has since built a successful research group. His work has been funded by notable organizations such as the BBSRC and the Wellcome Trust, with a research focus on the mechanisms regulating gene expression at the translation stage. Graham has also played an active role in academic societies, serving on editorial boards and organizing national conferences related to translation and yeast research. He has received awards for his achievements in research and teaching, including being recognized as Researcher of the Year and Teacher of the Year.
