Biography

Graham Treece is a professor in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, specializing in Information Engineering. His research interests are primarily in scientific image analysis and visualization, particularly within medical fields. He focuses on developing engineering techniques tailored to specific clinical problems, emphasizing the physical properties of imaging systems. He has made significant contributions in areas such as Cortical Bone Mapping, which aims for accurate assessment of bone joints using Computed Tomography (CT) data, and RMAR, a technique developed to reduce artifacts caused by metal in CT imaging. Additionally, Treece's work includes advancing morphological methods to reduce general image noise, notably through the application of the Bitonic Filter. His research also covers freehand 3D ultrasound data and ultrasound elastography for stiffness measurement, as well as the Regularised Marching Tetrahedra method for accurate surface extraction from sampled data. He supports multiple software platforms for implementing these technologies, including Stradview for visualization and analysis of 3D imaging data. He has been a founding member of the Engineering Clinical Practice initiative within the Engineering Department's Clinical School since 2008.
