Biography

Grant C Churchill is a Professor of Chemical Pharmacology at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Department of Pharmacology and New College. His research focuses on understanding how small molecules function as messengers that regulate physiology, and on developing chemical tools for drug discovery. His work has notably revolved around the repurposing of the molecule ebselen, which mimics lithium, for the potential treatment of bipolar disorder; this compound is currently in phase 2 clinical trials. Additionally, Churchill has contributed to the field by developing chemical tools that elucidate calcium signaling pathways, including the identification of NAADP as a messenger, and the development of the NAADP antagonist Ned-19. His current efforts aim to further explore calcium signaling mechanisms and identify novel drug targets. He has a strong interest in the mechanisms of NAADP signaling and related pharmacology.
