Biography

Greg Amirault originally from Nova Scotia has been living in Montreal for 25 years. He has been teaching at the university and college level for 18 years. He holds a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance and Composition from McGill University. Greg is a recipient of the Grand Prix de Jazz from General Motors and is a member of the Eduardo Pipman Quartet, showcased at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. He received the Prix Opus for concert of the year with the Altsys Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Maria Schneider. Active in the Montreal jazz scene, he performs both as a leader of his own group and as a sideman. He has had performances with renowned musicians including Michel Donato, Dave Turner, and Tim Hagans. His private studies include tutelage under Greg Clayton, Roddy Elias, and John Abercrombie, and he has attended workshops led by notable figures like Kurt Rosenwinkel. As a leader, he has released CDs such as 'Acadian Folk Song' with FND Records in 1998 and 'East Sun,' which he self-produced in 2013. Greg has been teaching at Concordia University since September 2000.
