Greg Engel is a Professor at the University of Chicago in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and the Department of Chemistry. He is the Co-Director of the Berggren Center for Quantum Biology Medicine. His research group focuses on developing new strategies to observe, measure, and control excited state reactivity and quantum dynamics using custom-designed spectrometers. Engel's research combines theoretical approaches with experimental techniques in spectroscopy, biophysics, and synthesis. He currently directs the NSF QuBBE QLCI initiative, which involves collaboration among 23 principal investigators to advance quantum sensing in biology and biophysics. He has held various leadership roles, including Chair of the ACS Physical Chemistry Division and the ACS Biophysics subdivision, and his contributions to the field have been recognized with multiple awards. Engel has also received accolades for his teaching, including the Quantrell Award for Undergraduate Teaching and the Camille Dreyfus Teacher/Scholar Award.
