Professor G.A. Kopp received his B.Sc.M.E. from the University of Manitoba in 1989, M.Eng. from McMaster University in 1991, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1995. He held an NSERC Post-doctoral Fellowship at the Chemical Engineering Department, Universitat Rovira Virgili in Tarragona, Spain, from 1995 to 1997 before returning to Canada for an appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario. He was promoted to Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in July 2007 and has a cross-appointment in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Currently, he serves as the Associate Dean (Graduate Postdoctoral Studies) in the Faculty of Engineering as of January 2015. His research focuses on mitigating damage to structures from extreme wind storms, including tornadoes and hurricanes, employing both model-scale wind tunnel and full-scale component test methods. He is a member of numerous professional committees and serves as the Chair of the ASCE 49 Standards Committee on Wind Tunnel Testing of Buildings and Structures. He has been involved in several technical advisory committees related to wind engineering research programs across universities in North America and Europe.
