Biography

Gregg C. Allen's primary research interest focuses on the unique properties of neurons that generate circadian rhythms and the interactions that mediate the ability to coordinate molecular and physiological rhythms in tissues, ultimately regulating rhythmic behaviors. Using a combination of molecular, cellular, and behavioral analyses in a mouse model, his research aims to identify the cells in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and anterior hypothalamus that function as a biological clock, generating circadian output signals to synchronize rhythmic processes in diverse tissues throughout the body. In addition to his research work, Allen is committed to undergraduate medical education in anatomical sciences, teaching courses such as Medical Gross Anatomy, Medical Histology, and Medical Neuroscience. His scholarly teaching activities focus on pedagogy and teaching theory, with the goal of enhancing the educational experience for future medical professionals.
