Biography

Gregg Nelson is a Professor and the Deputy Head of Professionalism & Governance at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He holds the position of Section Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. His substantial research focuses on the development and study of Enhanced Recovery Surgery (ERAS) protocols in OB-Gyn cancer surgery and HPV vaccination among various populations. He has received over $7 million in grant funding and has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and 10 book chapters. As the lead editor of the ERAS® Society Handbook for Obstetrics and Gynecology, he advocates for evidence-based multimodal perioperative care aimed at improving outcomes for cancer patients while minimizing surgical stress responses. Dr. Nelson also co-leads the Enhancing HPV Vaccination in Indigenous Nations of Alberta (EHVINA) project, aimed at increasing HPV vaccination rates among First Nations communities. He has served as a guest professor at Lanzhou University and has received several prestigious awards, including the 2021 Top Reviewer Award from the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer and the Eugene M. Bricker Award from the Society of Pelvic Surgeons.
