Professor Dr. Gregor Wolbring

Biography

Gregor Wolbring is a tenured Full Professor at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine. He specializes in the fields of Community Health Sciences and Program in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies. He is a member of the Institute of Technology Assessment Systems Analysis (ITAS) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and a senior fellow at the Institute of Science, Society and Policy at the University of Ottawa, Canada. His research interests include ability studies, disability studies, disability justice, and the implications of emerging sciences and technologies on marginalized populations, particularly on people with disabilities. Wolbring's work addresses various thematic areas, including equity, diversity, inclusion, and the ethics of sustainability, as well as risks associated with bodily enhancement and environmental issues. He actively engages in research related to climate change and its intersection with poverty and health, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of social stresses and their impact on disabled individuals. He is noted for his mentorship efforts within the Faculty of Medicine and serves on committees focused on diversity and inclusion in academia.
