Biography

Gregory J. Berry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is board-certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology and holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Dr. Berry completed a fellowship in Medical and Public Health Microbiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. With a focus on infectious disease testing, he has been involved in optimizing current methodologies and developing new technologies for patient-centered clinical testing. His clinical roles include Co-Director of the Clinical Microbiology Service and Co-Director of the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and he directed the Division of Infectious Disease Diagnostics at Northwell Health. Dr. Berry is actively involved in several professional societies, including the American Society for Microbiology, contributing to committees that oversee accreditation and educational programs in clinical microbiology. He has received various awards for his teaching and research excellence, notably the Dr. Joseph G. Fink Laboratory Medicine Faculty Teaching Award at CUMC in 2023.
