Biography

Gregory Bratman's research takes place at the nexus of psychology, public health, and ecology, focusing on examining the pathways through which nature experience can benefit mental and physical health. He investigates potential causal mechanisms underlying the relationships between nature and human well-being, exploring how to operationalize science in decision-making. As the director of the Environment Well-Being Lab, Bratman's research group gathers empirical data, develops theoretical frameworks, and uses novel approaches to understand the association between contact with nature and human well-being. Additionally, he serves as Co-Director of the UW Nature and Health project and is a member of Cohort II of the JPB Environmental Health Fellowship at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
