Biography

Gregory E. Crawford is the Wilburt C. Davison Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Duke University. His primary research interest focuses on understanding genome regulation, particularly how the human genome, which contains approximately 25,000 genes and encodes about 2% of its total makeup, functions in various developmental states and diseases. His overarching goal is to identify and characterize the regulatory genes turned on in different cell types and tissues, as well as their environmental responses. He seeks to understand where gene regulatory elements are located and how non-coding variants in these regions can affect gene expression. His research program aims to address critical clinical questions related to gene regulation and its implications for health. Crawford has held various academic positions, climbing the ranks to become a distinguished professor, and has served in multiple roles within the Department of Pediatrics.
