Biography

Gregory Daddis is the Melbern G. Glasscock Endowed Chair in American History at Texas A&M University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Master’s degree from Villanova University, and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Daddis was awarded the 2022-2023 Fulbright Distinguished Scholar Award at Pembroke College, University of Oxford. After graduating from West Point, he served 26 years in the Army, retiring as a colonel. He participated in Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom and received several military awards, including the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. His final assignment was as the Chief of the American History Division at the United States Military Academy. Daddis specializes in Cold War history with an emphasis on American involvement in Vietnam, and he has authored six books, including the forthcoming "Faith and Fear: America's Relationship with War Since 1945". He has published scholarly articles in leading journals such as the Journal of Cold War Studies and the Journal of Military History. Daddis has actively contributed to public education on historical matters, serving as an official advisor for the Ken Burns-Lynn Novick documentary "The Vietnam War" and leading multiple educational tours of Vietnam. He has participated in grant reviews for the National Endowment for the Humanities and served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Military History. Daddis has also contributed op-ed pieces on military affairs to prominent media outlets such as The New York Times and The Washington Post.
