Dr. Gregory Dickinson

Biography

Gregory Dickinson, an esteemed Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Education at Western University, has significantly contributed to the field of education law. His academic journey began in London, Ontario, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario, followed by an EdD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Dickinson called to the Bar in Ontario in 1975 and has engaged in various roles within the university setting, including directing a store-front legal aid clinic and teaching courses in legal research and writing. Since joining the Faculty of Education in 1983, he has been instrumental in shaping legal education for future educators, teaching graduate courses focused on Education Law and its political context. As a significant figure in the Faculty, he has held leadership positions such as Chair of the Division of Educational Policy Studies and Director of Althouse Press. His commitment to education law is evident through his founding of the Education & Law Journal in 1988, which continues to serve as a key resource in the field. Throughout his career, he has published extensively, authoring five widely used textbooks in Ontario secondary schools, receiving accolades such as the Edward G. Pleva Gold Medal for Excellence in Teaching in 1997, and sharing his insights through numerous refereed articles in both Canadian and international journals.
