Biography

Gregory David Fuchs is a Professor in the School of Applied and Engineering Physics at Cornell University. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Cornell University in 2007. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral associate at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2011, he joined the Cornell faculty and has since received several prestigious awards including the Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in 2012 and the Early Career Award from the National Science Foundation in 2013. His research interests focus on quantum information science and spintronics, specifically the study and manipulation of spin and optical degrees of freedom in solid-state materials. Fuchs leads a research group that draws inspiration from atomic physics, materials science, and electrical engineering, and is particularly interested in hybrid quantum systems. His work involves diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) defect centers, which are essential for creating quantum-enhanced sensors and contribute to future quantum technologies. Fuchs also employs advanced time-resolved magneto-thermal microscopy, a unique technique developed to study magnetic materials, leveraging quantum sensing protocols.
