Biography

Gregory S. Jenkins is a professor in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State University and the director of the Alliance for Education, Sciences, Engineering Development in Africa (AESEDA). He received his BS in Physics from Lincoln University, and both his MS and PhD degrees in Atmospheric and Space Sciences from the University of Michigan. Following the completion of his PhD, he spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. In 1996, Jenkins joined the faculty at Penn State University's Department of Meteorology, and he also worked at Howard University in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and was the director of the Howard University Program in Atmospheric Sciences (HUPAS) from 2004 to 2007. Jenkins has received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Career award and was selected as a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow in 2003/2004. He has participated in the NASA African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis field campaign in Cape Verde and Senegal and has published in numerous scientific journals. Jenkins was recognized with the Alumni Merit Award from the AOSS department at the University of Michigan in 2007. He is a member of the HistoryMakers and was named a fellow of the American Meteorological Society in 2014. His research interests include weather, climate, and air quality in West Africa.
