Dr. Gregory Nobles

Biography

Gregory Nobles is a Professor Emeritus in history with a distinguished career at Georgia Tech. He joined the university in 1983 as an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Sciences and dedicated 33 years to advancing the study of early American history and environmental history. His notable administrative roles included Associate Dean of the Ivan Allen College from 1994 to 1996, Chair of the School of History, Technology, Society from 1996 to 2001, and the Founding Director of the Georgia Tech Honors Program from 2005 to 2014. Nobles has held prestigious Fulbright professorships, including roles in New Zealand and the Netherlands. He has received numerous research grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and various fellowships at renowned institutions, such as Harvard University and the Huntington Library. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was named a Distinguished Lecturer by the Organization of American Historians and served on editorial boards for significant historical journals. He furthered his scholarship as a Mellon Distinguished Scholar at the American Antiquarian Society and as a Robert C. Ritchie Distinguished Scholar at the Huntington Library. Nobles's recent works include 'John James Audubon: Nature American Woodsman' and 'Betsey Stockton: Odyssey Slavery Freedom'.
