Dr. Gregory Ruhnke

Biography

Gregory W. Ruhnke, MD MS is an Associate Professor in the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago. His career emphasizes health outcomes research and instruction in health policy, clinical research study design, and health data interpretation. He previously served as the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director. Dr. Ruhnke's academic work includes measurement outcomes, quality improvement, resource utilization, and risk adjustment in pneumonia patients. He studies the influence of patient characteristics and patient-centered attributes on care decision-making and the utilization of patient-reported outcomes. Dr. Ruhnke is also the track leader for the Clinical Research Scholarship Track in the School of Medicine’s Scholarship & Discovery program. A collaborative researcher, he is a founding member of the multicenter Hospital Medicine ReEngineering Network (HOMERuN), focusing on hospital readmissions and diagnostic errors. Dr. Ruhnke also serves as the Senior Deputy Editor for the Journal of Hospital Medicine.
