Biography

Gregory D. Van Duyne is a Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in the biochemical level understanding of DNA and RNA molecules and their crucial roles in living cells. His research focuses on the mechanisms and regulation of genome replication and transcription, which include critical processes such as DNA repair, site-specific homologous recombination, transposition, as well as the condensation, pairing, and segregation of chromosomes. Van Duyne employs advanced techniques such as X-ray diffraction to establish three-dimensional models of macromolecular assemblies that address specific biological questions, leading to the development of mechanistic functional models that are experimentally validated.
