Biography

Gregory Weir received his BA in Physiological Sciences from 2007 to 2010 and completed his DPhil in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics from 2010 to 2015 at the University of Oxford. His doctoral research focused on investigating rare genetic mutations associated with common migraines under the supervision of Dr. Zameel Cader. He pursued his interest in the biology of sensory neurons during a four-year postdoctoral position in Professor David Bennett's laboratory from 2014 to 2019, which was part of a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award titled 'Defining Pain Circuitry in Health and Disease.' Currently, Weir is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of Glasgow. He leads his own research team focusing on gaining insights into the biology of sensory neurons in health and disease, particularly how populations of sensory neurons contribute to normal sensation and pathological pain, including neuropathic pain. His work employs chemogenetic approaches and advanced neuroanatomical techniques to investigate the fundamental role of neuronal populations in sensation and pain.
