Biography

Gregory Wornell is the Sumitomo Electric Industries Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his BASc degree with honors from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and both SM and PhD degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in electrical engineering and computer science. He joined the MIT faculty in 1991, where he leads the Signals, Information, Algorithms Laboratory within the Research Laboratory of Electronics. Wornell serves as chair of the graduate area for Information System Science, Integrated Electronic Photonic Systems, Physical Science Devices, and Bioelectrical Science Engineering within the EECS department's doctoral program. He has held visiting appointments in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Palo Alto and AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill.
