Biography

Gretchen Chapman is a Professor in the Department of Social & Decision Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University. She joined the faculty in 2017, after serving as a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Rutgers University, where she held the position of Department Chair and was Acting Co-Director of the Center for Cognitive Science. Dr. Chapman has received numerous accolades for her contributions to the field, including the American Psychological Association (APA) early career award and the New Jersey Psychological Association Distinguished Research Award. She is a fellow of both the APA and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). A prominent figure in the academic community, Dr. Chapman is the senior editor of the journal Psychological Science and previously served as the past president of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making. With over 100 journal articles to her name and 20 years of continuous external funding, her research aims to illuminate the psychological processes underlying decision-making and to design theoretically-motivated interventions that promote healthy behavior, such as vaccination and blood donation. Her innovative approach combines the fields of judgment and decision-making with health psychology through laboratory and field experiments.
