As a clinical professor of neurology, I have a particular interest in cerebrovascular disease. My focus is on early diagnosis and acute treatment of stroke. I have extensive clinical experience and research in the aftermath of stroke and have published groundbreaking results that have raised the quality of stroke treatment. I have had a significant influence on the organization of acute treatment in Denmark and was the initiator of the establishment of the Danish Stroke Center in 2012. My primary responsibility is acute stroke treatment, including the development of an early biomarker test for diagnosis already in the ambulance. I contribute to supervising PhD students and serve as an independent advisor for PhD students at Health at Aarhus University. I research cerebrovascular disease with a specific focus on diagnostics, neuroprotection, and small vessel disease in the brain. This research builds on collaborations with microbiologists and bioinformaticians and relies on advanced scanning and analytical methods. The goal is to offer more patients faster acute treatment, which is crucial to saving brain tissue and function after both ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke.
