Dr. Grigore Pop Eleches

Biography

Grigore Pop-Eleches is a Professor of Politics at Princeton University, where he has been a faculty member since 2003. He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on comparative political behavior, particularly in authoritarian and post-authoritarian regimes in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Pop-Eleches co-directs the Princeton Workshop on Post-Communist Politics and has published extensively on topics related to comparative international political economy in Eastern Europe and Latin America, as well as democratization and democratic backsliding, with a specific emphasis on electoral behavior and political parties. He has authored the book "From Economic Crisis to Reform: IMF Programs in Latin America and Eastern Europe," published by Princeton University Press in February 2009, and co-authored "Communism's Shadow: Historical Legacies and Contemporary Political Attitudes" with Joshua Tucker, released in 2017 by Princeton University Press. His work has been featured in various academic journals including the American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, and World Politics.
