Biography

Grigoris Bacharis is a Lecturer in Private Law at the University of Edinburgh, where he also serves as the Academic Year Lead for third-year LLB students. He specializes in private law, particularly in the areas of delict and contract. His research interests encompass private law across civil common law jurisdictions, competition law, EU law, and legal theory. Currently, he is focusing on the interaction between competition damages claims and tort law from a private law theory perspective. Additionally, his work investigates private law theory within the European context, emphasizing private enforcement and public policies, as well as EU competition law. Before joining the University of Edinburgh, Grigoris worked as a lawyer in Greece and was a trainee at the European Commission. He has also held positions as a visiting researcher at Columbia Law School, King’s College London, and Humboldt University Berlin. He obtained his LLM degree with distinction from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) and holds a Bachelor of Law with a Master’s degree in Private, Labour, and Civil Procedural Law (also with distinction) from the University of Thessaloniki. Grigoris is currently developing a book project based on his PhD research and is set to publish a co-authored article titled 'Bridging Gap(s): Importance of Private Law Theory in the EU Context' in the Common Market Law Review in October 2024.
