Biography

Guadalupe Garcia-Tsao is a Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and past Chief of Digestive Diseases at the VA-Connecticut Healthcare System. She serves as an Associate Editor for the New England Journal of Medicine and was the president of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases in 2012. She completed her medical degree at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and her training included an internal medicine residency and a gastroenterology fellowship at the Instituto Nacional de la Nutrición, as well as a Hepatology fellowship at Yale University. Dr. Garcia-Tsao's research focuses primarily on patient-oriented studies examining complications of cirrhosis and portal hypertension, including varices, variceal hemorrhage, and ascites. She has authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers and various guidelines and has co-edited significant texts on liver diseases. Dr. Garcia-Tsao is recognized as a mentor and lecturer, having been awarded several prestigious named lectureships. Her research accomplishments have been recognized with accolades such as the International Recognition Award from the European Association for the Study of the Liver in 2014 and the Clinician Educator Mentor Achievement Award from the AASLD in 2015.
