Biography

Guan (Gary) Xu, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan. He has received his PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Biomedical Optics from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Xu possesses extensive experience in optical ultrasound imaging and biomedicine, having undergone postdoctoral training in these fields. His research interests include the refinement of photoacoustic imaging techniques to improve the diagnosis and direct treatment of intraocular tumors. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs predoctoral award, a postdoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association, and the Career Development Award from the American Gastroenterology Association. He also received the Senior Research Award from the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation and the R37 MERIT award from the National Cancer Institute.
